اَلْاَ نْعَام

Al Anam

HR Background

English translation of Kanz-ul-Irfan

Do not eat that upon which the name of Allah has not been pronounced,[1] and indeed this is disobedience. Indeed, Satan whispers to his friends so that they argue with you;[2] and if you obey them, then certainly you shall be disbelievers too.

Commentary

[1]

The ruling is that if a Muslim or an individual from the People of the Book does not pronounce the name of Allah Almighty deliberately then that animal is unlawful, and if he forgets, then it is alāl. Here, the People of the Book refers to a true adherent of the Scripture; being Christian by name but an atheist in nature will not suffice.

[2]

To argue about religious matters without knowledge or debating for the sake of argument is the way of devilish people, but debating to verify the truth is worship.
