Al Imran

HR Background

English translation of Kanz-ul-Irfan

O believers! Do not consume usury, doubled and quadrupled,[1] and fear Allah ˹with this hope˺ that you may attain success.

Commentary

[1]

This verse forbids the consumption of interest and declares it unlawful. In the Age of Ignorance, lending money with interest was common. The rate of interest would increase if the borrower failed to pay. Even today, this manner of charging and compounding interest is prevalent in many communities.
