Al Imran

HR Background

English translation of Kanz-ul-Irfan

You must never consider those who are pleased with their actions and love to be praised for what they did not even do—so never think of them as being saved from torment, ˹rather,˺ there is a painful punishment for them.[1]

Commentary

[1]

In this verse, there is a warning for those who resort to impermissible self-love and desire false honour, praise, and fame. When one feels an urge to be held in esteem, loved by the masses, praised by people, held as the cynosure of every eye, and hailed as a contributor to civilisation (even though he has not served humanity), he should reflect on his state as these urges and wants are symptoms of loving of authority. If this is the case, he should learn from this verse and work to remedy this evil trait.
