اٰلِ عِمْرَان
Al Imran
لَنْ تَنَالُوا الْبِرَّ حَتّٰى تُنْفِقُوْا مِمَّا تُحِبُّوْنَ ﱟ وَ مَا تُنْفِقُوْا مِنْ شَیْءٍ فَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ بِهٖ عَلِیْمٌ(92)
You will never attain piety until you spend in the way of Allah that which you hold dear.[1] And whatever you spend, indeed, Allah is aware of it.

In this verse, al-Birr refers to piety and obedience. Spending includes necessary and supererogatory donations.
