بَلْ كَذَّبُوْا بِالْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَهُمْ فَهُمْ فِیْۤ اَمْرٍ مَّرِیْجٍ(5)
Rather, they denied the truth[1] when it came to them, so they are in a confused state. [2]
Commentary
[1]
Truth here refers to either Prophethood or the Holy Quran.
[2]
That “state” refers to the disbelievers sometimes calling the Holy Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم a poet, sometimes a sorcerer, and at times, a fortune teller. Likewise, they would sometimes call the Quran poetry, or sorcery, or fortune telling. They would not remain upon one opinion.
