اَلْاَ نْعَام

Al Anam

HR Background

فَكُلُوْا مِمَّا ذُكِرَ اسْمُ اللّٰهِ عَلَیْهِ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ بِاٰیٰتِهٖ مُؤْمِنِیْنَ(118)

English translation of Kanz-ul-Irfan

So eat from that upon which the name of Allah[1] has been pronounced if you believe in His verses.

Commentary

[1]

This verse means one should eat from the animal which has been slaughtered with the name of Allah Almighty and that which died its own death or was slaughtered in the name of idols is unlawful (arām). The lawful nature of an animal is dependent upon it being slaughtered with the name of Allah Almighty. The authority to permit or proscribe something belongs to Allah Almighty alone. So objects are declared as lawful (alāl) or unlawful (arām) in respect to His guidance.
