In Islam, the consumption of Ḥalāl (lawful) and the avoidance of unlawful is strongly emphasized; one can never become pious by earning unlawful income and then consuming it. Bribery, interest, theft, looting, etc. are all examples of unlawful income.

Ḥalāl and Ṭayyib means lawful for consumption (like the meat of a goat, vegetables, lentils etc.) and it has been acquired in a permissible way (without bribery or theft).
