یَسْــٴَـلُوْنَكَ مَا ذَا یُنْفِقُوْنَؕ-قُلْ مَاۤ اَنْفَقْتُمْ مِّنْ خَیْرٍ فَلِلْوَالِدَیْنِ وَ الْاَقْرَبِیْنَ وَ الْیَتٰمٰى وَ الْمَسٰكِیْنِ وَ ابْنِ السَّبِیْلِؕ-وَ مَا تَفْعَلُوْا مِنْ خَیْرٍ فَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ بِهٖ عَلِیْمٌ(215)

English translation of Kanz-ul-Irfan

They question you about what they should spend, say, “The wealth that you spend of good so that is for your parents, and close relations, and orphans, and the destitute, and the traveller,[1] and whatever good you do, indeed, Allah knows it.”

Commentary

[1]

This verse refers to voluntary charity. It is not permissible to give zakat and compulsory contributions to one’s parents.
