وَ الَّذِیْنَ یُتَوَفَّوْنَ مِنْكُمْ وَ یَذَرُوْنَ اَزْوَاجًا یَّتَرَبَّصْنَ بِاَنْفُسِهِنَّ اَرْبَعَةَ اَشْهُرٍ وَّ عَشْرًاۚ-فَاِذَا بَلَغْنَ اَجَلَهُنَّ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَیْكُمْ فِیْمَا فَعَلْنَ فِیْۤ اَنْفُسِهِنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوْفِؕ-وَ اللّٰهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُوْنَ خَبِیْرٌ(234)

English translation of Kanz-ul-Irfan

Those, who die from among you leaving wives, then they (the widows) should confine themselves for a period of four months and ten days;[1] so when they reach their phase ˹of completion˺, then ˹O carers,˺ there is no sin on you in what the women do with themselves in compliance with the Shari‘ah.[2] And Allah is aware of your deeds.

Commentary

This verse stipulates the waiting period of a widow as four months and ten days; this is the case if he dies on the first day of the lunar month, otherwise the duration will be 130 days.  (See Tafsīr Ṣirāt al-Jinān for more details).

Women have the right to decide their personal matters within the boundaries of the Shari‘ah and thus, they may proceed with marriage on their own, however, consultation is best.
