Al Baqarah

HR Background

English translation of Kanz-ul-Irfan

And their Prophet said to them, “The sign of his kingdom is this that there shall come to you the chest in which there is the satisfaction of hearts from your Lord, and the remaining items of what was left[1] by the honourable Mūsā and the honourable Hārūn,[2] carried by Angels. Indeed, in this there is a great sign for you, if you are people of faith.”

Commentary

[1]

Objects belonging to the beloved creation of Allah Almighty are sacred like the blessed sandals of Prophet Mūsā عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام in the chest (among other items) which were a means of blessings.

[2]

Some scholars have stated that the Tabūt Al-Sakīnah contained relics of the scholars belonging to the nation of the Prophets Mūsā and Hārūn عَـلَيْـهِما الـسَّـلَام and hence, “اٰل” refers to the scholars; whereas others have stated that the chest contained sacred items of the Prophets Mūsā عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام and Hārūn عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام; “اٰل” was attributed to them as an expression of honour.
