English translation of Kanz-ul-Irfan

Soon We shall place fear in the hearts of the disbelievers[1] as they equated such a thing with Allah for which no evidence was revealed, and their abode is the Fire; and how terrible an abode it is for the oppressors.

Commentary

[1]

This verse mentions news from the unseen. Prior to becoming a Muslim, when Abū Sufyān was returning after the Expedition of Uhud, he questioned himself: “Why are we returning without killing all the Muslims even though this is an ideal opportunity.” When they decided to go return to Uhud, suddenly the fear of Muslims struck their hearts to such an extent that they returned to Makkah abandoning their plan of a second attack.
