English translation of Kanz-ul-Irfan

Indeed, those of you who retreated on the day when the two armies confronted one another, Satan caused them to err through some deeds which they had done; and indeed, Allah has forgiven them. Indeed, Allah is Most-Forgiving, Most-Forbearing.[1]

Commentary

[1]

During the Expedition of Uhud apart from fourteen companions all others faltered, especially those who were commanded by the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم to remain stationed at the mountain side did not remain steadfast (left their posts sensing victory). These Companions were mistaken, but since they had unwavering faith and were sincere believers and true servants of the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم who had willingly endangered their lives for the Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم on numerous occasions, Allah Almighty declared their forgiveness in the Quran. If ever this error of judgement comes into focus, then their greatness in the Court of Allah Almighty shall always remain an undeniable fact.
