English translation of Kanz-ul-Irfan

Indeed they disbelieved those who said: “Indeed Allah is the Messiah, son of Maryam.”[1] ˹Dear Beloved Prophet,˺ say: “So who has the power to save from Allah if He wills to destroy the Messiah—son of Maryam—and his mother, and all inhabitants of the earth? And to Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and all that lies between them. He creates whatever He wills; and Allah has power over everything.”

Commentary

[1]

A group among the Christians believes that معاذاللّٰہ, Prophet ʿĪsā عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم is “Allah.” This verse refutes their belief in a few ways: 1. Prophet ʿĪsā عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم can die, and one who can die cannot be God; 2. His noble mother gave birth to him, and he who is born, coming into existence from nonexistence, cannot be divine; 3. Allah Almighty is the Master of everything in the earth and in the sky—everything is subservient to Him. Prophet ʿĪsā عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم acknowledged being a servant of Allah, which he would not have done if he was God himself. Allah Almighty is the Ultimate Creator and the Creator of the universe, and so if Prophet ʿĪsā عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم possessed divinity, he would also be the ultimate creator.
