Al Maidah

HR Background

English translation of Kanz-ul-Irfan

Remember when Mūsā said to his nation: “O my nation! Remember the favour of Allah upon you when He made prophets among you,[1] and He made you kings,[2] and He endowed you with that which He did not give to anyone in the world.

Commentary

[1]

The arrival of prophets is a favour of Allah Almighty, as Prophet Mūsā عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم commanded his nation to remember this. This verse is another proof of celebrating and commemorating the blessed Mawlid al-Nabī (Prophetic birth). If the command has been given to remember the arrival of the prophets of the Israelites whilst considering this to be a blessing, then the arrival of the Prophet  صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّمis an even greater blessing to be commemorated.

[2]

Sovereignty is also a favour of Allah Almighty, and gratitude should be expressed for this too. An excellent way of expressing gratitude for this is to govern the affairs of the kingdom according to the command of Allah Almighty: help the poor, fulfil the rights of people, end oppression, and give opportunities of peaceful living to the residents of the region.
