Kaaf-Ha-Ya-'Ayn-Saad. (These are individual letters of the Arabic alphabet; Allah and His Messenger know their exact meanings.)
Kāf Hā Yā ʿAyn Sād.
This is the mentioning of that Mercy of your Lord, which He bestowed upon His bondsman Zakariyya.
This is the mention of your Lord’s mercy upon his chosen one Zakariyyā.
When he called his Lord softly.
When he called upon His Lord secretly.
He submitted, 'O my Lord, my bone has become weak and the flame of old age (i.e. grey hair) is shining from the head, and O my Lord, I have never been unsuccessful after calling You.'
He said, “O my Lord! My bones have become fragile and my head shines with the flame of old age (grey hair), and O my Lord! I have never been deprived after calling upon you.
'And I fear my relatives after me (that they may destroy the religion), and my wife is infertile; therefore, bestow upon me from Yourself such (an heir) who will take over my work.'
And I fear my relatives after me, and my wife is barren, so grant me an heir from Your Court
'He should be my successor and the heir of the children of Ya'qoob. And O my Lord, make him a cherished one.'
who will be my successor, and the heir of the descendants of Yaʿqūb; and make him accepted (in your Court).”
'O Zakariyya! We give you the glad tidings of a son whose name is Yahya. Before him, We have not made anyone of this name.'
“O Zakariyyā! Surely We give you glad tidings of a boy whose name is Yaḥyā; never before have We created one with this name.”
He submitted, 'O my Lord, how can I have a son; whereas, my wife is infertile, and I have reached the state of thinness due to old age?'
He (Zakariyyā) said, “O my Lord! How will I have a son while my wife is barren and I have reached a frail state due to old age?”
He said, ‘It is exactly as so.' Your Lord said, 'That is easy for Me, and I have (indeed) created you before this, at a time when you did not exist.'
He said, “Thus it is. Your Lord has said, ‘It is easy for Me, and I certainly created you before this when you were nothing.’”
He submitted, 'O my Lord, give me some sign.' He (Allah) said, 'Your sign is this; that you will not (have the ability to) speak to people for three nights, (and) days, despite having good health.'
He said, “O my Lord! Make for me a sign.” He (Allah) said, “Your sign is this that despite being healthy, you will not speak to the people for three nights ˹and days˺.”
So, he came out to his people from the Mosque, and spoke to them through gestures that 'Keep glorifying (your Lord, in the) morning and evening.'
So he came out to his nation from the chamber of prayer, then he gestured to them that glorify Allah morning and evening.
'O Yahya, hold on to the Book (i.e. the Tawrah) firmly.' And We gave him Prophethood in his childhood.
“O Yaḥyā! Hold fast onto this Book.” And We endowed him with wisdom in childhood.
And compassion from Us, and purity; and he was extremely fearful (of Allah).
And compassion from Us and purity; and he was exceptionally pious.
And was dutiful towards his parents, and was neither hostile nor disobedient.
He was kind to his parents and he was not arrogant, disobedient.
And peace is upon him the day he was born, and the day he will pass away, and the day he will be raised alive.
So peace be upon him on the day he was born, the day he will die, and the day he will be raised alive.
And remember Maryam in the Book (i.e. the Qur'aan); when she went apart from her family to a place towards the East.
Remember Maryam in the Book. When she segregated from her family in a place to the east.
