بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ
Allah's Name to commence with, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
In the name of Allah, the Infinitely Gracious, the Most Merciful.
صٓ وَ الْقُرْاٰنِ ذِی الذِّكْرِﭤ(1)
Saad. (This is an individual letter of the Arabic alphabet; Allah and His Messenger know its exact meaning.) By the oath of this renowned Qur'aan.
Ṣād, by the Quran which consists of advice.
بَلِ الَّذِیْنَ كَفَرُوْا فِیْ عِزَّةٍ وَّ شِقَاقٍ(2)
Rather, the disbelievers are (caught up) in arrogance and are in opposition (to the Beloved Prophet Muhammad).
But the disbelievers are in arrogance and conflict.
كَمْ اَهْلَكْنَا مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ مِّنْ قَرْنٍ فَنَادَوْا وَّ لَاتَ حِیْنَ مَنَاصٍ(3)
How many a generation did We destroy before them, so now they cry out, whereas it was no longer the time for escape.
So many generations have We destroyed; they called out even though there was no time to escape.
وَ عَجِبُوْۤا اَنْ جَآءَهُمْ مُّنْذِرٌ مِّنْهُمْ٘-وَ قَالَ الْكٰفِرُوْنَ هٰذَا سٰحِرٌ كَذَّابٌ(4)
And they were surprised that a warner came to them from amongst themselves, and the disbelievers said, 'He is a magician, a great liar.'
And they were surprised by this that a warner came to them from among them and the disbelievers said, “This is a sorcerer, a great liar.
اَجَعَلَ الْاٰلِهَةَ اِلٰهًا وَّاحِدًا ۚۖ-اِنَّ هٰذَا لَشَیْءٌ عُجَابٌ(5)
'Has he merged all the gods into One God? This is indeed something very strange.'
Has he made many gods one God? This is a very strange matter.”
وَ انْطَلَقَ الْمَلَاُ مِنْهُمْ اَنِ امْشُوْا وَ اصْبِرُوْا عَلٰۤى اٰلِهَتِكُمْ ۚۖ-اِنَّ هٰذَا لَشَیْءٌ یُّرَادُ(6)
And their (Makkan) leaders went about (saying), that 'Leave him and cling steadfastly to your gods; indeed, he has his own (hidden) motive in this.'
And the chiefs among them walked away ˹saying˺, “˹O people!˺ You walk away too and be firm upon believing in your gods. In this matter, there is certainly something intended.
مَا سَمِعْنَا بِهٰذَا فِی الْمِلَّةِ الْاٰخِرَةِ ۚۖ-اِنْ هٰذَاۤ اِلَّا اخْتِلَاقٌ(7)
'We never heard of this even in the latter religion of all; Christianity (that God is only One); this is just a new fabrication.'
We did not hear of this in the last religion (Christianity); this is only a fabrication.
ءَاُنْزِلَ عَلَیْهِ الذِّكْرُ مِنْۢ بَیْنِنَاؕ-بَلْ هُمْ فِیْ شَكٍّ مِّنْ ذِكْرِیْۚ-بَلْ لَّمَّا یَذُوْقُوْا عَذَابِﭤ(8)
(The disbelievers asked) 'Was the Qur'aan revealed (only) to him from out of (all of) us?' In fact, they are in doubt concerning My Book; rather, they have not yet tasted My punishment.
Has the Remembrance (Quran) been sent down upon him among us?” Rather, they are in doubt concerning My Book. In fact, they have not yet tasted My punishment.
اَمْ عِنْدَهُمْ خَزَآىٕنُ رَحْمَةِ رَبِّكَ الْعَزِیْزِ الْوَهَّابِ(9)
Are they the treasurers of the Mercy of your Lord, the Dignified, the Great Bestower?
Do they have the treasures of the mercy of your Most-Exalted, Most-Bestowing Lord?
اَمْ لَهُمْ مُّلْكُ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَ الْاَرْضِ وَ مَا بَیْنَهُمَا- فَلْیَرْتَقُوْا فِی الْاَسْبَابِ(10)
Is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and whatever is between them for them (i.e. for the polytheists)? So, would they not just ascend using ropes?
Or do they have the Kingdom of the Heavens and the earth and all that lies between them? Then let them ascend with ropes.
جُنْدٌ مَّا هُنَالِكَ مَهْزُوْمٌ مِّنَ الْاَحْزَابِ(11)
This (group of disbelievers) is just one of the disgraced troops which will be chased away.
A humiliated army among groups that shall be defeated here.
كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوْحٍ وَّ عَادٌ وَّ فِرْعَوْنُ ذُو الْاَوْتَادِ(12)
Before them, the people of Nooh had belied, and (the tribe of) 'Aad, and Fir'awn, the man of stakes (by which he used to torture the people).
The nation of Nūḥ denied before them and (so did) ʿĀd, and Pharaoh, the possessor of spikes.
وَ ثَمُوْدُ وَ قَوْمُ لُوْطٍ وَّ اَصْحٰبُ لْــٴَـیْكَةِؕ-اُولٰٓىٕكَ الْاَحْزَابُ(13)
And the (tribe of) Thamood, and the nation of Loot, and the People of the Woods (i.e. the dwellers of the forest); these are those (defeated) groups.
And Thamūd and the nation of Lūṭ and the People of Aykah; these are the groups.
اِنْ كُلٌّ اِلَّا كَذَّبَ الرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ عِقَابِ(14)
There is no one amongst them as such, who did not belie the Messengers, My punishment therefore became inevitable.
All of them denied the Messengers, so My retribution became necessary.
وَ مَا یَنْظُرُ هٰۤؤُلَآءِ اِلَّا صَیْحَةً وَّاحِدَةً مَّا لَهَا مِنْ فَوَاقٍ(15)
And they do not wait but for just one scream, which no one can avert.
And these people are waiting for a ˹piercing˺ Cry for which there is no deferral.
وَ قَالُوْا رَبَّنَا عَجِّلْ لَّنَا قِطَّنَا قَبْلَ یَوْمِ الْحِسَابِ(16)
And they said (mockingly), 'O our Lord! Give us our share (of punishment) quickly, before the Day of reckoning.'
And they said, “O our Lord! Grant us our share quickly before the Day of Reckoning.”
